Other – Human Rights

There are several special opportunities that the Foundation supports even though they lie outside of the Human Rights Program’s formal portfolios. Generally, these projects focused on issues important to both the Foundation’s Human Rights and Environment programs. Additionally, they include the Foundation’s emerging interest in supporting organizations aiming to reform the influence of moneyed interests on the American political system.

Below is a list of the Foundation’s 2013 grantees in this portfolio.

Special Opportunities

Museum of Jewish Heritage
“Against the Odds” Exhibit - $25,000 (second payment of a two-year grant)

Opened to the public in 1997, the Museum of Jewish Heritage’s mission is to educate a broad public about modern Jewish history and the Holocaust through exhibitions, educational curricula and primary sources, and public programs. Against the Odds, an exhibition (formerly known as Brothers’ Keepers) scheduled to open in spring 2013, will tell the fascinating story of American Jews who saved fellow Jews from Europe during the Nazi period and helped them establish new lives in America. These rescuers persisted against odds, navigating a bureaucratic system that discouraged immigration to bring as many people as possible to safety.
